Waldo App: UX/UI Case Study

The Waldo App is a UX/UI case study that emerged from a visit to an assisted living facility, sparking the idea for a smart lifestyle application to enhance residents' everyday experiences. Webwood Assisted Living, located in Southwest Missouri, has been a family-owned facility since 2018, offering a range of accommodations and amenities tailored to provide premium care at an affordable price.

The challenge identified was the absence of a dedicated mobile application for residents, which limited their ability to access common amenities, manage food requests, schedule appointments, and control various devices within the facility. With a clear aim to create an intuitive app for senior residents, the project encompassed user research, competitive analysis, and comprehensive ideation to understand user behavior and needs.

Over two months, the focus was on developing an accessible and user-friendly interface optimized for the elderly population, which typically varies in technological familiarity. High contrast, large fonts, and intuitive navigation became central design principles, ensuring usability across different levels of experience.

Usability testing revealed essential insights that directly influenced the app's design refinements, ultimately leading to a high-fidelity prototype tailored to support the unique requirements of senior residents at Webwood. The app's information architecture emphasizes clear navigation with sections for ‘Home,’ ‘Calendar,’ ‘Food,’ ‘Inbox,’ ‘Services,’ and ‘Settings,’ ensuring that users can quickly access relevant information. This thoughtful approach lays the groundwork for a potentially transformative tool in enhancing the daily lives of its users.
